A dress for Victoria

So my last bits of the very first fat quarter matching set I bought last year is finally used. It served well. And now Victoria needed her own version.
It's been cut for  a week (no pattern), and finally did it last Friday. I tend to prepare tons of projects and get sewing when Papa doesn't mind. Because, most of the time he's studying, and, well, my machine is right next to his desk. Apparently, it's annoying. Phfff.

Mariann loves the new addition to Victoria's wardrobe. I do, too.

 

Else on my sewing table; a longsleeve shirt that got shortsleeved, as Papa's arm are too big for the sleeve. And I kept the sleeve to make pants for Merrrick.

So this is what I have for this week's Sewing Bee.

Perfect Daddy Bag

I keep telling myself to make something in order to sell. Every one around me does the same. Everything I make a gift to someone, someone says "You're so talented, you should try to start your own business!!"

Most of the time, I agree. I should start selling something.

Something, but what??

What would I like to make repeatedly? That the market isn't overload with already?

I've looked around to see if many people make play diaper bags. Result of my research: fiew people make real diaper bags. One person sell play ones in etsy, and one blogger made one (she offers a tutorial, too!).




Like Mariann's, this one is equipped with a felt bottle, a bib, wipes, diapers and layette. It's made out of a vintage plaid my mom wanted to throw away (!) and one of her pair of pants. I feel it's more masculine, thus the title, Daddy Bag. But it could be for a girl as well, too!

Label: Twill tape + black sharpie.

I think there could be a market for those... I'll put some up in my etsy shop to go with the elementals I'm making.... We'll see, I'll give you some news!

A new dress and a children book

Thanks all who let me know what they were thinking of my blog, I really appreciate all the nice comments and will continue to be random... And tonight I wanted to show you a little dress I made for my daughter.

I put her in the new dress after changing her, so she wanted to change her baby Hermione (Meen) as well...

It kept her busy for a while... But I've shown her the little dress I made for her doll, and with my help she put in own her. Always fun to match!

That's when she spotted the book. She LOVES to "read". I think she knows how the speak Elfish.

Now I make a Christiane of myself:

the book is about a Penguin knocking on a boy's door, and the Boy assumed he's lost. He'll do all he can to bring him back home. After learning penguins came from the south pole, they travel all their way to South pole in a row boat... But finally arrived to the pole, with the penguin looking sad once again, the boy realizes the penguins isn't lost, he's just needing a friend!

It's in English. I found in at the (now closed) only English bookstore in a 300 miles radius. I felt in love with the watercolor illustrations. But the story is really cute, too! Now it's a tad worn... sign it has been loved.

Mariann's companion doll

I gave Mariann her new doll this weekend... She didn't care much about her at first (I think I could have cried), better liking to play with wooden blocks and, oh my, the red tricycle my mom gave her!

But the next morning (when the tricycle was out of sight) She started playing with her new dollie! :D She even gave her a name! "Ermine". In French it sounds like "hRmeenn" which is close enough to Hermione which is now the new name of the doll. It's great to have a doll not called "Bébé"... makes it easier to know which one she wants! (She still call her zebra plush "dog" though!)

Why not a feeding after that?

It was great seeing her finally enjoy her gift. She loved looking into the bag for what she needed and placed back everything afterward!

She takes Hermione with her everywhere now, with the bottle of Juice. (yeah.... it was meant to be milk.... but Mariann decided it was juice) How great it was to see her litteraly dump the plastic bottle she had in her hand when she saw the one I made out of felt!

I'll post the cake and birthday party pics tonight :) It's great what we can achieve with food coloring, plastic figurines, waffle sticks, turtles chocolate and green licorice!

The Perfect Mommy kit -A bday gift

As I'm rolling yarn over a cardboard to make some hairs for the girly waldorf doll... I thought I'd need a break... And I'm gonna use it to show you the diaper bag I did for my daughter, if you don't mind!

I LOVE it. I'm very proud of myself! I used no pattern, everything was from scratch and the front pockets are an happy mistake! (I wanted to put them inside facing the other pockets but... construction made it so they went on front!)

Everything except the inside bottom is lined and without seams, and for the inside bottoms I've trimmed the extra with fantasy siscor and it looks great :)

...Of course I was able to place one of my label somewhere. I'm getting crazy with those!


Even embellished it with a little flower, found a tutorial here :)

I've also added wooden buttons out of my stash. This really fun fabric was laying around in a box of old fabric my mom wanted to throw away! Uhuh. Not with me! There's enough to make myself a big enough size one (which I will do... I don't know when but I will!) And there will still have some left for 2 other bags!

Mariann didn't see the bag completed, but she was there looking on my shoulder when I was cutting my pieces, and she said "Wow! C'est beau!" touching the fabric and "Yum!" pointing at the strawberries... so I think she likes the fabric.

I've made a matching changing pad, too!


And some felt diapers and wipes. I still need to make some kind of a wipe case.



There's 2 pockets in the front and 3 inside.



What's great is that there would be still enough place for other stuff she might want to put in... her own sippy cup, sunglasses, playfood, real food, daddy's pencil case...



I used her plastic milk bottle and sippy that came with a doll to show off, but I'm pretty confident that by tomorrow she'll have at least the milk bottle made in felt :)


Milk bottle, Sippy Cup, 3 diapers, 3 wipes, one changing pad, one sling, bottle of baby shampoo and a little snack... we never know!

Can't wait to give it to my lady :) I still can't believe she's already two, and I can't help leaving you with one of my favorite newborn picture.

2 min Doll Sling Tutorial

As a part of what I'm doing for my daughter (the perfect mommy kit!) I made a sling for her to walk her baby around. Because when I'll walk mine around she'll want to walk hers too!

And I came up with a really really easy, cheap and fast idea!

What you need:

A scarf
2 O-ring. ( I couldn't find any so I bought bracelets at the dollar store)
Matching color thread
Sewing Machine

1. Take one end of your scarf, pass the O rings through and fold about 2-3", roughly pin in place.

2. Change your all-purpose foot for your zipper foot, Sew close to the rings.

(or, you can hand sew I guess)
I've zigzag stitched once and straight stitched over it.

3.It should look like that... Now Gather it.

4. Pass the other end of the scarf thought the rings, place on shoulder, grab a baby and play mommy!

(sorry for the non-cuteness of the model... I'm hidding it from Mariann until the weekend!)

My First Waldrof Inspired Doll

I told you yesterday, here it is, not naked anymore!

I decided going for a Boy doll for my nephew, as I'm pretty sure he doesn't have one yet. He's only 4 month old, and for now he won't care much other than chew on it.... But as he'll grow and start playing a bit of pretend play, he'll have other stuff to play with than plastic trucks and soldiers (not that I think my sister would buy him soldiers though!)

I could have made him anything, but went for the Waldorf companion doll.
There's TONS of great one on etsy, and they are expensive! This one cost me barely nothing to make, and it's because I cheated.

Waldorf dolls are usually 100% natural. But I didn't have access to wool roving and bio cottons etc... And no money to get it from the internet. So this little guy is filled with cotton balls, the skin is from an old maternity t-shirt (what an hideous color for a shirt! lol) T-shirt and jeans from what I had too, and the socks are a pair of mariann newborn's that I slightly cut. The wool hair is acrylic I think...
It cost me about 4$ to make, and I spent the weekend on it.



First time I make so tiny cloths! So this is my first pair of pants :P

There's also many books, pattern for clothing and lots and lots of doll makers (etsy made a special section for them!) if you don't want to make one and want one :P

And of course... Mariann stole it. Many times. As I was attaching the hair (strand by strand....) She'd take it, give it a kiss, and give it back. This little guy received a lot of love already!... I was able to get picture because Mariann is currently napping... Else she would have been part of the pics!

Now I'm gonna start on hers, as it's gonna part of her bday gift. I'm not buying anything, all her gifts from me would be handmade.
