Hunting for Signs of Autumn

We are lucky enough to have plenty of natural land to discover, and this week we went walking with our little basket, collecting the leaves that turned red and the grown wheat, oat and barley.

The next morning, inspired by an article on Ryhtm of the Home, we made little fall mobiles. Mariann selected the leaves and cut the thread. She cut way too many, but what to expect? Lili just tried eating them and crushing them, making a pretty good mess.

As night grows longer, I'm actually glad the days are getting shorter, as it means Papa come back a tad earlier each day. I'm tired of feeling in battle with Mariann. Today I "gave up" at nap time, and let her listen to a movie, while trying to get Merrick naping, which he totally didn't do. It resulted in eating early and Merrick falling asleep in my arm, and I was able to take a bath with Mariann after putting him in our bed. So it was a great ending of day. Phew.

Halloween Stuff!

I'm the one organizing the Halloween swap on the hair forum this year; and Here's all the Halloweeny goodies I made for my swapie:

First, my big project (and fav) A Cooking Spellbook, inspired by Hocus Pokus :)

Filled with magical recipe; True Blood, Waffles Wands, Edward's Kiss, Butterbeer....

My second bag I ever make, and the most intricate! I tried making a buttercup bag... The hoppening is very narrow.... But I like it anyway ...

It's lined with Orange burlap

The inside of the Halloween couture kit, for fun (it might interest the most curious...):

Her fav color is deep purple, and those were so cute I bought them.

Inside are really salted pumpkin seeds... Made it look like it was coming out of Honeydukes...

I made little pouch for everything, too.

If you were wondering how I made the Spellbook;
-Reused a cereal box.
-Made a white ball out of modeling clay, stuck a teady bear eye on it (I cruelly destroy plush to reuse their eyes...)
-Shape a first layer of eyelid with red modeling clay, the nexts with newspaper+modpodge
-Newspaper for the other relief too; paint it all in brillant red, played with paint after; brown, lighter shades of red, black, etc...
-Sew along the relief I made
-Had the "silver" details.
-Modpodge scrapbook paper inside the book (so you couldn't see the big roster anymore, ahah) and hide the sewing
-attached rubans, which holds the page. I was going to handbound it but I figure it would take 3 eternity....

To-Do list.

Creativity is usefull in every domain of your life.
Moms know what I'm talking about.

Our big girl decided yesterday that the high chair was not for her anymore.
Eating fruit with her hands is still okay, cause the grown ups do too.
But she know refuse to be feed with a spoon or a fork. She can do it!
(almost) She's actually really good.

At what age do they usualy start feeding themselves with forks?

My ladie is only 14months old.... She's growing so fast!

Now, on to the list:

1- Shall I repost it, My Island!

2- I bet this one will make an amazing before/after: Dinning Table:

not pictured: 3 other chairs and a ralonge.

Really used set my in-law gave us.

I'm not 100% sure what we are doing with the fabric (stripes? floral? plain?) but it will be classic. We want to stain it darker. (don't even talk about painting wood to Papa Tattoo!)

3-Bébé Tattoo's changing table/dresser:

This was Papa Tattoo's dresser as a child. It dates from the 40's and we can clearly see the previous coat of red.
I'm keeping it white but I'll distress it even more. 4 flower knobs (matching with this dresser) are already added. Unfortunatly, the matching yellow handle Ì have are too wide, so I need to look for some.

4- We need to instal that chandelier in Bébé Tattoo's room.



5- And hang that mirror:



6- I want to find a way to incorporate my daughter's name above her double door closet. I can't paint it and I don't want vinyl. I might do a plaque or frame for each name (4) in different size and colors...

7-This one her is actually done! I sprayed it white, again, and it looks better.
I did not took a pic of it before covering it with plants...


..but you can imagine it stainless =)

8- When I get the time and money(!), I'd like to paint the few kitchen counter space I have, that is now white with LOTS of stains !

9- Now I'm skipping all those steps and I'm gonna listen to an episode of Design Star I've just loaded (I don't have the hgtv usa.... And I don't want to wait!)
